Growing Fonder

I always used to hear them say:
"Absence makes the heart grow fonder,"
But I had never been familiar with this sentiment.

Yet now when I awaken
And your slender frame is not touching mine,
I realize how much larger, emptier this bed can be.

The smell of your hair has left the pillows
And the taste of your kisses has left my lips,
But you are always on my mind.

I impatiently await the moment
When we will be able to embrace,
And we allow our lips to caress.

Oh, the ecstasy we will encounter
When our bodies touch
And our fingers entwine.

You will fill the emptiness beside me,
Your scent will return to my pillows
And the taste of your kisses to my lips.
